It’s hard to believe we are closing in on August already. I guess that is good incentive to make fullest use of the summer days remaining! The school building here is way too quiet and empty; I look forward to the vitality the children will bring, and I expect some of our parents will be welcoming the beginning of another school year as well. Do you think I have been out of line in promising the children I see at mass that this year we will be giving out ice cream cones three times a day? Guess I better find someone to delegate that to. Perhaps it can be a new ministry????
At the end of the 8:00 mass last Sunday I said, “it is a pleasure to be with all of you”, and several people responded spontaneously, “and also with you”. We surely are liturgically trained aren’t we! Anyway, the truth is, it really is a pleasure to be here. Holy Trinity has a unique spirit at all the masses. Some of the words I would use in description would be: positive, fully engaged, receptive, vitality. I see it in your faces when you come up for communion, and I feel it strongly as I preside at Eucharist with you. Well done good people!
In my bulletin column each week I like to mention people in the parish who deserve special thanks. This week I want to give a personal and special thanks to Cathy Davis for her work setting up for all the weekend masses and assuring the altar servers, lectors, and Eucharistic ministers are all in place. She has been at all 4 masses each weekend since I have been here, and for me being totally unfamiliar with Holy Trinity I would have been lost without her. Thank you Cathy!!! I also want to say how impressed I am with the quality of all our liturgical ministers—including our incredibly gifted musicians.
Okay, that’s the positive. Now, the negative. Help me know how to deal with the congestion on Walker Road! I can bike back and forth most of the time and then stay well off Walker, but the few times I have driven it I am appalled. The LONG signal lights drive me crazy! Guess it will give me plenty of raw material for my monthly confessions. Guess I will have to learn to cope.
Stay well everyone and enjoy these summer days while we have them!
