The Greeters Ministry: Helping You Feel Welcome

Ever wonder who those nice people are that greet you as you enter the doors of Holy Trinity Church?  They offer to help you find a place to sit, assist with the

collection during Mass, answer all types of questions and are always there to provide general assistance to parishioners.  Well, these warm and welcoming folksare known as "greeters" and are part of a ministry whose main goal is to extend the hospitality of the parish to those coming into the church to attend our

liturgical celebrations.

Ed Aguon, coodinator of the Greeters Ministry and a long-time greeter himself, is currently looking for more help - "anyone and everyone" - adults and youth, men and women, to assist with this most important role.  Ed says that the Greeters Ministry is a great introductory way (for new parishioners, especially) to get involved with the church.  With a time commitment of approximately two to three hours a month, (depending on the number of masses and special events that require staffing), the Greeters Ministry is a convenient way to contribute one's time on a set schedule.  Further, this Ministry's time commitment makes it an ideal opportunity for those parishioners who also assist in other Holy Trinity ministries.

Want a good example?  Just ask husband and wife team, Franz and Monette Mallari (pictured), who, in addition to working on Holy Trinity's annual International Festival, also work together as greeters.  The Mallaris are pleased that they "have really gotten to know their church community"  through their participation in greeting parishioners at Mass time.  Both Franz and Monette know that a warm smile, strong hand shake or even the smallest compliment at the door can make all the difference in helping to make someone feel they are a welcome and valued part of a friendly church home.  If you are interested in learning more about the Greeters Ministry, feel free to contact Ed by telephone at (503) 590-3658, by e-mail at baguon@aol.com, or visit the Holy Trinity website for a look at the "Greeter Guidlines" at http://www.ht.org/documents/GreeterGuidelines2006.pdf.
