Rite of Election (RCIA & RCIC)
on March 16, 2011
On the First Sunday of Lent, March 13, 2011, the Archdiocese of Portland celebrated the Rite of Election at St. Mary’s Cathedral, with Archbishop John Vlazny presiding. The Rite of Election (and Call to Continuing Conversion) is the liturgical rite through which the Catholic Church formally ratifies the readiness of its catechumens for the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist.
This Rite also recognizes the candidates preparing for Confirmation or Eucharist, or for reception into full communion with the Catholic Church.
Every parish in the archdiocese traveled to the cathedral present their RCIA and RCIC candidates to Archbishop Vlazny. This year, Holy Trinity Parish is blessed with an unprecedented number of catechumens and candidates, with 90 individuals as young as elementary school age, plus teenagers and adults. In the tradition of the Catholic Church, this journey of faith is completed with the reception of the sacraments at the Easter Vigil that will be celebrated at our parish on Saturday, April 23 at 7:00 pm.
