Sometimes mistakenly called the last rites, an anointing with holy oil is not just for the terminally ill. Anyone with serious or chronic health problems can find comfort and healing in this ritual that dates back to the time of St. James the Apostle:
Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray.
Is anyone happy?
Let them sing praises.
Is anyone among you sick?
Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.
The prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up, and their sins be forgiven.
- James 5:13-15
Anointing of the Sick is available every first Wednesday of the month after our 8:15am Mass (in the chapel) and before or after every weekend Mass. If you are experiencing declining health or undergoing surgery, please ask!
